RadioApp is the app to listen to Australia's most popular radio stations. The app has over 350 Australian commercial, ABC & SBS radio stations ready for you to listen to. Australia's favourite FM, AM and DAB+ stations are available here. It is the official app for the Australian commercial radio industry.
We have designed the RadioApp smartphone app to be as simple as possible to use - think about how you listen to the radio in the car. Listening on your phone should be just as easy: set your favourites first and away you go.
RadioApp is also available on smart speakers; on Google Nest speakers and displays, Amazon Echo devices and Sonos speakers.
Easy. Just say “Hey Google, play..” and the name of the station or its frequency.
For example:
No. As long as you have your speaker or display properly set up and working, you are good to go.
No.
Not just yet.. we will be available within the Google Assistant app soon.
Sometimes Google can misunderstand you due to factors such as background noise when you asked, where you may be standing or sitting compared to the speaker or display or other factors. Try and ask again.
Another reason you may be getting the wrong stations is that your speaker or display may be set up with its ‘address’ in a different location to where you are now. To set up your Google Nest speaker or display’s 'address' correctly, you can change that in the Google Home app on your phone.
When you’re in the Google Home app, go to Settings > Home Information, and check that you have the correct address listed.
If you’re still getting the wrong radio station, please send us an email so we can help – contact at radioapp dot com dot au.
No. You don’t even need to ask Alexa for RadioApp. All you have to do is ask for an Australian commercial radio station, ABC or SBS radio station by saying ‘Alexa, play [and the name of the radio station or frequency you want to listen to’]
For example:
No.
We do this so we can correctly give you your local radio stations. Many radio stations around Australia share similar names or frequencies so knowing where you are ensures we give you the correct local station when you ask for it.
Sometimes Alexa can mis-understand due to factors such as background noise when you asked, where you may be standing or sitting compared to the microphone or other factors. Try and ask again.
Another reason you may be getting the wrong stations is that the postcode may have been set up incorrectly when you started using RadioApp. To set your postcode correctly, say ‘Alexa, ask RadioApp to change postcode.” Alexa will then prompt you to give your correct postcode. After that you can ask for again for a radio station.

The app has come a long way even though we know very little about our users.
To make the app better we need to better know our audience. The information we ask from you when you sign in - such as age and gender – helps us know our audience, so that we can make informed decisions about which features we should be working on to improve RadioApp. We’re really excited about how RadioApp can get better for our users from here and this information helps us make the right choices on what to focus our efforts on.
We also provide this information to our broadcasters. General information about what types of people listen to their stations and shows is super helpful to the stations that are on RadioApp; it helps them better understand their listeners and to improve their stations, shows and music.
All this means that RadioApp can continue to survive as a free app. It means we can stay live without the need to insert the annoying pop up and video advertising you see in other radio streaming apps.
There are two reasons:
No. We do not on-sell user information to third parties.
There are three reasons:
If you do not want to let the app know your location while using the app, please enter in your postcode instead so we can give you the most relevant radio stations for that postcode first.
You can always go back later into the app’s settings and turn on location services.
RadioApp is only available as a smartphone app for Apple and Android phone users for now and for those who use Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. RadioApp will be growing over time though, so keep an eye out for updates.
Music licensing rules in Australia prevent us from offering the ability to offer pause and rewind functionality, sorry!
This is not something done by RadioApp and doesn’t happen for all stations. The insertion of an advertisement at the start of a stream is done by individual stations on occasion and is outside of our control. This affects listeners not just on RadioApp but wherever else they may be listening to that station online.
We are always adding more Australian radio stations to the app so keep an eye out for new stations.
At this stage RadioApp only has Australian commercial radio stations, ABC and SBS radio stations available. That’s enough to keep us very busy for the time being. We have more of these stations joining the app over coming months.
Look out for future improvements for RadioApp.
We no longer offer RadioApp support for a small number of older devices.
For iPhone users, we are no longer able to support RadioApp for iPhones that have IOS 7.1 or earlier. Less than 3% of iPhone users are on IOS 7.1 or earlier.
For Android users, we are no longer to support RadioApp for phones with Android versions less than 4.1. Less than 1% of Android users are on Android 4.1 or less.
No. Listening to radio within RadioApp uses on average about 20 to 30 megabytes per hour. Considering many phones these days are sold on plans with data of at least 10 gigabytes per month, listening to radio online uses a very small amount of that data.
Compare this with using Facebook or streaming live TV on your mobile. Using Facebook uses about 100mb per hour while streaming live TV can use 400mb per hour.
This means that listening to your favourite radio stations, personalities and shows on RadioApp is easy and has minimal impact on data usage.
We love feedback from our listeners, it really helps us find bugs and make the right improvements for the app. The easiest way to get in touch is to use RadioApp, press the ‘More’ tab and then press the button ‘Feedback’. This way you can get in touch with us with your suggestions or feedback.
You can also contact us via email at contact at radioapp dot com dot au.
The app is happily working well for the vast majority of users, but a small number of Android users who have been using RadioApp for a while are seeing an error message appear when the app launches. The message says there is an error connecting the app.
This fix will get you back up and running:
These are the steps for a Samsung Android device. If you don’t have a Samsung phone, you can still do this although the steps to get to clearing RadioApp’s data and cache may be a little different for your device.
If the above fix doesn’t work, please email us at contact at radioapp dot com dot au so we can help.
